SALIENT FEATURES
  • THERMOSTAT
Your storage water heater is provided with ISI marked stem type thermostat with a range of 30°C to 75°C having a preset temperature of 65°C. The thermostat's function is to automatically cut off the electric supply when the water reaches the preset temperature level and automatcally restart when the water has cooled. thus the thermostat limits the water temperature to the desired level automatically.
  • THERMAL CUT-OUT
To ensure further safety in case of thermostat failure, ancther special safety device -the thermal cut out-swings into action. The device automatically cuts off electric supply. It is set to operate at temperature of 90°C + 6°C (the red indicator lamps starts glowing immediately). Disconnect main electric supply to the water heater. Contact your nearest dealer/service centre for rectification of fault.
  • FUSIBLE PLUG
A fusible plug provided in the water heater, which melts if the temperature of the water heater exceeds the safety limits of 98°C. When the fusible plug melts, the hot water drains out simultaneously cold water is drawn in, thereby allowing the water temperature to reach a safe level.
  • PRESSURE RELEASE VALVE
The storage water heater is provided with a pressure release Valve to release excess pressure inside the tank in case it crosses the specified limit as per ISI norms.
INSTALLATION
  • GENERAL
    • The fixing slots in the mounting brackets of the water heater are the measured and marked on the wall and four suitable sized wooden plugs are to be grouted in the marked locations to take 10 mm or 3/8 coach screws or bolts. Coach screw or Bolts are to be used.
    • Each bolt has tobe fixed in position with a suitable washer. The fixing slots of the Water heater mounting brackets are then slid on to the fixing bolts and the bolts are to be securely tightened.
    • The inlet and outlet connection are to be made with ½ BSP Union couplings.
    • For vertical. models there should be a minimum clearance of 40mm or 1½ from the celling to the top of the heater. The recommened height of the heater is 6 feet or 1.8 mts. from the floor level.
    • For horizontal models the clearance to the celling should be 40 mm and in addition the water heater should be located from the end wall at a minimum distance at a 60 cm or 2 feet.
  • NON-PRESSURE TYPE (Refer DRG No.1)
    • This installation is mainly intended for delivering hot water at one point only, very close to the water heater.
    • Non stop cock should be fitted on the outlet pipe.
    • Acontrol valve should be fixed on to the cold water inlet pipe and hot water is drawn by opening the inlet valve where admission of cold water will displace the hot water to comeout of the outlet pipe.
  • PRESSURE TYPE (Refer DRG No.2)
    • The cold water inlet must be taken from the overhead storage tank.
    • The inlet must be free. A stop cock or wheel valve is provided only for shutting off supply for purposes of servicing and during operation this valve must always be kept open. "Do not use a non return valve"
    • As many outlet points, as may be required, may be taken each with a separate stop cock on the outlet side.Incase of long delliveries away from the water heater, it may be desirable to log the outlet pipes to reduce heat losses.
    • It is important to check that the above connections are done securely water tight.
Each Elac water heater is pressure tested as per 1S:2082.
  • WATER SUPPLY

The inlet water supply is to be taken from the overhead tank only and the maximum height of the top of the tank, from the heater is 30 mtrs.
If the height is more a pressure reducer valve should be used.

(The heater should not be connected to an automatic pump system)

The control valve on the inlet should be a gate valve type and should always be kept open. It is preferable to fix valve at a height so that it is not closed inadvertently.

  • ELECTRICAL CONNECTION (Refer DRG No.3)

The water heater is supplied with 3-core flexible connection lead (approximately 1.5 metres). Care should be taken that the Red lead is connected to the live line and the Greenlead (or yellow with green strips) to a good earth.(ENSURE THAT THE EARTH PIN IS PROPERLY GROUNDED).

    • OPERATION

Before switching on fill the heater with water , Leave the hot water tap open and open the inlet water supply. When the cold water flows out of the outlet, close the hot water tap. Keep the inlet valve always open. Now the inner tank will always have water and whenever water is takenout of the hot water tap on equal quantity will be drawn automatically.

Now switch on the power supply. The indicator lamp will glow and when the water reaches the required temperature the thermostat switch off the supply automatically.

The thermostat is set at 65°C. In places where the water is hard a lower setting of 60°C is recommended.

    • OPERATION

It is advisable to switch on the heater an hour before you require the hot water. If you require it very early in the morning the heater can be switched on in the night itself and the thermostat control will switch off the supply when the water reaches the preset temperature.

If required, the heater can be kept on continously and hot water will always be readily available at the tap. The thermostat will switch on and off automatically and the thermal insulation will keep the heat loss to the minimum. In such operation the PUF insulation will prove a great advantage

You can occasionally test whether the indicating lamp goes off when the water becomes hot, to check the proper operation of the thermostat

SHOULD NOT
  • Do not switch on the power supply until the water heater is completely filled with water and water is flowing out of the outlet.
  • Do not use a non-return valve in the inlet side of the water heater.
  • When the red light glows 'on' do not operate the unit by reseting the thermal cut-out.
SHOULD
  • Read instructions carefully before installing the water heater.
  • Please ensure that proper earthing is provided.
  • Please ensure that the inlet/outlet is on the right side only in case of horizontal water heater unless specified differently.
  • The electric supply must be disconnected before opening the inspection cover.
  • Always keep the inlet valve open.
  • Use a 3pin 15 amp. socket to connect the water heater to the power supply.
  • Ensure water flows from the outlet pipe before connecting the power supply at the time of installation.
  • The working of the thermostat should be checked once in a while, by ensuring that the green light glows on and off when unit is in use.
